Locally Grown Strawberries... A Treat We Wait For All Year Long
Posted: Tuesday, June 1, 2010
Since we live in a cold weather climate, we are fortunate to have fresh produce from around the world available all year round. With that being said, it doesn't make June and the arrival of locally grown strawberries any less anticipated. At Kowalski's, we partner with local grower Shawn Lorenz for some of the best berries available. We expect our first delivery around the middle of June, depending on the weather. We have come to realize that there is nothing better than a plump, juicy, naturally red local strawberry, and we can’t wait to sink our teeth into them!
Enjoy these beautiful berries out of hand or in one of several recipes we have spread throughout the magazine. Just before using, swish each berry in a bowl of cold water; shake off the excess water and lay the clean berries on paper toweling. Layer them in a plastic container and store them in the refrigerator for up to two days or use immediately.
The season is short, so shop frequently and take advantage of one of nature’s special indulgences.
