Hoping for a Healthy New Year? Surprise Yourself Each Week.

Kowalski's Nutritionist Sue Moores, M.S., R.DKowalski's Nutritionist Sue Moores is back, and she's chiming in with some positive advice regarding your dietary plans for 2014:

When the New Year rolls in, many of us resolve to do something to improve our health. Why not add a fun promise to the mix of resolutions? Why not commit to trying one food that's new to you each week?

That's it. Find a food you've never eaten or try a recipe you've never made. (Make it a healthful pick at least 80 percent of the time.) We're creatures of habit when it comes to our food choices. We gravitate toward the familiar. There are thousands of interesting choices in our stores; new foods debut all the time. Surprise yourself.

Our weekend demos are great fodder for finding fun new foods. Twice a month, our stores feature a Good Foods for Good Health demo showcasing a food or recipe we hope will tickle your taste buds. Besides getting a chance to "taste and see" something different, we have information about what these featured foods can do to help you live well.

Wade in or jump in. Your new food can be as simple as trying an unfamiliar variety of yogurt or as adventurous as bringing home octopus for dinner. The point is to step outside the lines of your usual grocery list and find intriguing, healthful foods to put on your plate. We're here to help if you're looking for ideas.
