Basic Oatmeal with Regular/Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats
- 3 ¼ cups water
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 cups regular rolled oats
- - stir-ins, as desired: maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, fresh fruit and warm milk or half-and-half
In a medium saucepan, bring water and salt to a boil. Stir in oats. Reduce heat and simmer 5 min., stirring occasionally. Remove the pan from the heat; cover and let stand 2 min. before serving to allow the oats to absorb any remaining liquid.
Good to Know: You can also make single servings of this recipe in the microwave. In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine 1 cup water, 1/2 cup rolled oats and a dash of salt. Microwave 2 ½-3 min.; stir before serving.
