Common Man Sloppy Joes

Ingredients
1 tbsp. Kowalski's Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 ½ lbs. 93% lean ground beef
1 yellow onion, finely chopped
1 red or green bell pepper, diced (or combination)
- kosher salt and coarse ground black pepper, to taste
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
¾ cup tomato sauce
¼ cup water
¼ cup ketchup
2 tbsp. tomato paste
1 tbsp. Dijon mustard
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- hot sauce (such as Tabasco sauce), to taste, if desired
4 tbsp. softened unsalted butter
6 Kowalski's Hamburger Buns
Directions

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat; cook and crumble beef with onion and bell pepper until meat is no longer pink (10-12 min.), stirring frequently. Drain fat from meat, if desired; season mixture with salt and pepper. Add garlic; cook and stir until softened and fragrant (1-2 min.). Stir in tomato sauce, water, ketchup, tomato paste, mustard and Worcestershire; bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to medium; cook until sauce is thickened (12-18 min.), stirring frequently. Season with salt and pepper; add hot sauce, if desired. Butter cut sides of buns; place buttered side down on griddle over medium heat. Toast until golden-brown (3-4 min.). Spoon meat mixture onto one half of bun; cover with top half. Serve immediately.
