An amateur baker her entire life, Mary Pat Ingwell happily married into a Sicilian family with a rich baking tradition and a deep love of food. Years of delicious experimentation, combined with family inspiration, led her to create her own recipe for the refined yet classic Italian dessert, tiramisu. This traditional Italian mélange layers light, airy sponge cake with smooth, creamy mascarpone cheese, infused with notes of coffee, liqueur and chocolate.

When she approached Kowalski's Markets in 2011 with her handmade tiramisu, Mary Pat brought a winning recipe and a strong business background. What she lacked was experience in the food industry, especially in retail grocery. Her neighbor – an acquaintance of Mary Anne and Jim Kowalski and a friend of now-retired Kowalski's Chief Merchandising Officer Terri Bennis – suggested our markets as the perfect place not only to sell her tiramisu but also to gain the support and mentorship she needed to bring it to market.
