Millerville Co-op Creamery

At Millerville Co-Op Creamery, butter is made the same way it has been for nearly 90 years. Established in late 1929 by more than 100 local dairy farmers, the creamery remains rooted in patience, craftsmanship and a strong connection to Minnesota farms. They are one of the last remaining creameries in Minnesota to produce small-batch butter, based in Millerville, Douglas County.

It all begins with fresh cream sourced from happy cows on local dairy farms. From there, the creamery team follows a time-honored method that favors quality over speed. The cream is gently pasteurized in small batches, then cooled slowly overnight to develop its signature rich flavor.

The next day, the cream goes into the churn, where it slowly separates into butter and buttermilk. The buttermilk is drained, a touch of salt is added and the butter is worked until it becomes smooth and creamy.

From there, everything is done by hand. The butter is scooped from the churn, then sliced, wrapped and boxed with care before making its way to nearby stores. It's a simple approach that has stood the test of time, resulting in rich, creamy butter that feels like home.
