Whole Grain Milling Co. has its roots in a family farm and a commitment to organic agriculture that stretches back more than three decades. Doug and Lin Hilgendorf began the process of certifying their farm organic in the 1980s, completing certification in 1989 after a seven-year process. One year later, they founded Whole Grain Milling Co. with a simple goal: to process their grains just enough to make them more usable while preserving as much of the nutrition and quality inherent in whole grains as possible.

Today, the family farm raises a diverse selection of organic crops, including high-lysine corn, blue corn, yellow and white popcorn, oats, rye and buckwheat. Grains and beans they don't grow themselves are sourced from other organic farms, allowing them to support organic agriculture beyond their own fields.

Among Whole Grain Milling's specialties are its organic tortilla chips, made in its own facility using high-lysine corn grown right on the family farm. This unique corn variety has a more balanced essential amino acid profile than conventional corn, making it a natural fit for a company with a longstanding focus on wholesome, nutritious foods.

Now owned and operated by brothers Jeff and Ross Hilgendorf and their cousin Eric Nielsen, Whole Grain Milling remains rooted in the principles Doug and Lin established decades ago. From growing crops without synthetic pesticides or artificial fertilizers to supporting other organic farms, the family continues its mission of providing wholesome, nutritious organic foods at an accessible price.
