Kowalski's is proud to announce the acquisition of Pizzeria Pezzo!
More than 12 years ago, Kowalski's partnered with the late Gary Bougie and his wife, Keri, to bring the award-winning flavors of authentic Chicago-style deep-dish pizza to the Twin Cities. They opened their White Bear Lake restaurant, Pizzeria Pezzo, in the heart of White Bear Lake. After Gary's passing in 2014, Keri carried on his legacy, expanding Pezzo into Kowalski's stores in Woodbury and Edina.
Managing the business from her new home in California proved increasingly challenging. As a result, Keri made the heartfelt decision to sell Pezzo. The Kowalski family – longtime fans and financial partners of the Bougies from the very beginning – was honored to step in.
"I've always loved dining at Pezzo," says Kowalski's CEO Kris Kowalski Christiansen. "From day one, it felt like home. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the food – absolutely incredible. The original recipes have always been the soul of the menu and will forever be its foundation."
Now, as full owners, the Kowalski's team is excited to refresh Pezzo while honoring its roots, with thoughtful updates like elegant new pendant lighting and a redesigned bar at the White Bear Lake location, along with curated wines and special menu additions.
"We love creating beautiful, inviting spaces and serving delicious food that makes people feel at home," Christiansen adds. "It's what we've been doing in our stores for over 40 years."
You'll often find Christiansen and her family dining at Pezzo. "It's one of our favorite spots to gather with friends and family. We're here every week."
