Kowalski's Exclusive Whiskey & Wine
Kowalski's Exclusive J Rieger Bourbon Kowalski's Exclusive J Rieger Bourbon

Kowalski's is thrilled to announce the arrival of J. Rieger & Co. Private Stock Bourbon, an exclusive, limited-edition whiskey bottled for our proprietary collection, available only at Kowalski's Wine & Spirits.

Earlier this year, we traveled to Kansas City to taste and select our own private bourbon barrels with Rieger's Master Distiller and team. Joining us was wine legend Pete Seghesio, maker of our exclusive Journeyman and San Lorenzo wines. Pete brought with him three empty wine barrels that had previously aged San Lorenzo's "The Pearl", one of his most celebrated wines (currently available on Kowalski's shelves). A zinfandel blend with layers of dark fruit, spice and savory complexity, The Pearl carries a depth and richness that made its once-used barrels the perfect vessels for finishing the bourbon we had set out to discover.

The bourbon we chose, already aged for five years, was then transferred to these barrels, where it spent another 10 months completing the aging process. The finished whiskey is an inimitable blend infused with the special character of Pete's wine – and you won't find it anywhere but Kowalski's.

Featured Recipe: Continental Sours

To celebrate both of these exceptional products, we've created a special cocktail recipe that honors the partnership of these two iconic brands: the Continental Sour. Though it's believed to have originated in Chicago, the Continental Sour is sometimes called a New York Sour or even a Claret Snap. The drink is a twist on a classic Bourbon or Whiskey Sour, featuring a red wine float. It's only fitting that the wine used in this recipe is the one that was once aged in the very same barrel as the bourbon.

Find J. Rieger Bourbon and San Lorenzo's The Pearl Wine at Kowalski's Wine & Spirits, located at our Excelsior, Grand Avenue, Oak Park Heights, Uptown and Woodbury Markets.

Selection and availability of products and ingredients vary by market.
