Vikings & Goddesses Frozen All-Butter Pie Crust
- Kowalski's Classic Caramel Sauce, warm, for drizzling (optional)
- Kowalski's Signature Ginger Cookie Ice Cream, for serving (optional)
Directions
- Adjust oven rack to lowest position; place a rimmed baking sheet on the rack. Preheat oven to 425°.
- In an extra-large mixing bowl, whisk together ½ cup brown sugar, tapioca, ½ tsp. cinnamon, salt, ¼ tsp. nutmeg and allspice.
- Add apples, figs and nuts; toss to combine. Set apple mixture aside for 15 min.
- Meanwhile, in a medium mixing bowl, combine flour and oats with remaining brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. Using a pastry cutter, cut butter into oat mixture to make a coarse meal.
- Fill frozen crust with apple mixture, pressing down to pack the apples as tightly as possible in the crust.
- Using clean hands, spread oat mixture evenly over apples, pressing down lightly to keep it in place and to form a slightly domed top.
- Place pie on the preheated baking sheet; bake until crust and oat topping are dark golden-brown (40-45 min.), covering the edges of the crust with strips of foil to prevent overbrowning in last 10-15 min., if needed.
- Transfer pie to a wire rack; cool for 2 hrs. before serving. Drizzle with caramel sauce and serve with ice cream, if desired.
Tasty Tip:
- While almost any apple will work in this recipe, a tart apple provides better balance with the intensely sweet figs and dark brown sugar.
