Rich, nutty and irresistibly smooth, brown butter icing adds a deep caramel-like flavor that takes cookies to the next level. It's made with browned butter and confectioners' sugar for a sweet and toasty finish.
Ingredients
1 cup
Kowalski's Unsalted Butter
4 cups
confectioners' sugar
¼ tsp.
salt
1 tsp.
Kowalski's Organic Madagascar Vanilla Extract
4 tbsp.
(up to 5 tbsp.)
milk, plus more if desired
Directions
- In a small skillet, heat butter over medium heat until it starts to bubble (about 2 min.).
- Increase heat to high; continue cooking, swirling pan constantly, until butter is medium golden-brown (2-3 min.). Remove from heat; let cool for 3 min.
- Using a fine-mesh strainer, sift sugar and salt into a large mixing bowl.
- Slowly pour browned butter into sugar, stirring constantly.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Stir in 4-5 tbsp. milk until icing reaches desired consistency for spreading or drizzling (you may add more milk, if desired).
- Drizzle or spread on cookies, bars, cinnamon rolls, scones or donuts.
Tasty Tips:
- Do not leave butter unattended while browning. It burns easily.
- This icing pairs perfectly with Donuts and Donut Holes, Molasses Cookies, Baby Cinnamon Rolls, Caramelized Banana Scones or Cranberry Bars.
